Concealed Carry and Motor Vehicles

48 states in the United States have enacted laws allowing for concealed carry permits in certain circumstances. Through this article, you are provided some basic information associated with concealed carry permits and the carrying of a weapon in a motor vehicle. Armed with this information you will have a better idea of what is and is not permitted when it comes to concealed carry and motor vehicles.

Each of the states has unique requirements when it comes to the way in which a person can carry a weapon in a car, including a handgun, whether it be concealed or not concealed. In some states, there may not be an ability to get a concealed carry permit but in which you can keep a handgun in a personal vehicle - concealed and without a permit.

When it comes to concealed carry issues and what can and cannot be transported in a motor vehicle, some states have some very specific regulations in that regard. For example, in Georgia, you can concealed carry a weapon provided it is in the glove box of the auto. If it is not kept in the glove box, the gun must be kept in plain view.

In other states, like Florida, they have no rules governing the location of a gun pursuant to its concealed carry regulations. The only real rule is that the gun must be securely encased when it comes to be being transported in a person's car. If a person does not have a concealed carry permit in Florida, the individual cannot have the gun on his person when he or she is in his or her car. Of course, if a person does have valid concealed carry permit, he or she can carry the gun outside his or her car in a concealed fashion. And, if a person does have a valid concealed carry permit in Florida, he or she can have the gun on his person when in his or her automobile.

Some states, like California, do not permit a firearm to be kept accessible to a driver pursuant to its concealed carry regulations. In California, it is acceptable to carry a weapon in the trunk of his or her automobile. If a gun is being transported in the passenger compartment of a car, the gun must be unloaded and the gun must be in a completely enclosed container.

Once again, it is important that you clearly understand what you can and cannot do when it comes to concealed carry issues and your automobile. By making sure that you are well aware of these laws, rules and regulations, you will be certain to remain in compliance of the law.
